ROBERT HUNTER
My creative practice is rooted in a deep engagement with natural materials and a strong foundation in wheel throwing. I work primarily with stoneware and porcelain, often incorporating granite, wood ash, and wild clays collected across Scotland.
This material-led approach informs both form and surface, shaping glazing processes that highlight the raw qualities of the landscapes they originate from. I trained at Gray’s School of Art, graduating with a First Class Honours degree in Ceramics and Glass, and have since expanded my practice through work with potters in Canada, Highland Stoneware in northern Scotland, and most notably with Maria de Haan in Mallorca, where I refined my throwing techniques and developed my teaching practice.
My current work balances function and sculpture: I am developing a range of tableware alongside larger, more expressive vessels that serve as surfaces for glaze exploration
