HAAR Collection

The ceramics collection HAAR was created in and inspired by Aberdeenshire. The work displays a natural glaze that is made from materials self-sourced from around Aberdeenshire. The granite dust sourced from Craigenlow Quarry has been finely sieved to get a fine powder form of granite, this was combined with seaweed collected from the beach of Aberdeen which was dried out and blitzed into a fine powder before being fired overnight in the kiln to create seaweed ash. This journey of testing different combinations to finally create a glaze that worked with the iron-rich crank clay body took seven months. The form's inspiration is taken directly from the city's chimney pots and the well-known Broadford Works on Maberley Street in the heart of the city.
